On September 28 and 29, the LCS middle and high school students entered into the school’s building, somewhat apprehensive of what would be happening. In the weeks prior to the special event, the details of the event were somewhat vague.

A designated Spiritual Emphasis was very essential to our Christian community. The male students had their designated day, the 28th, while the ladies’ day was on the 29th. Let’s be honest, sometimes, attending Bible class every day and going to the school’s chapel on Wednesday isn’t enough, so most of the LCS students were very grateful for this. The males engaged in prayer, group activities, sermons about “being a real man”, and played kickball. We asked them what they liked about their day and what they learned from the preachings. Here are some testimonials:
“I learned that God gives you strength no matter what and God will be with you.”
Ernesto H. 6th grade interview
“I learned that having a closer relationship with God is the main thing you need to focus on. All of the designer clothes or the expensive items you have won’t be there (in heaven), so they don’t matter.”
Mikel S. 7th grade interview
“I liked when the men of Lanham Christian were able to understand me as a man. The male speakers had the same problems I struggled with and used their wisdom to teach me. I also liked when he played sports.”
Brandon B. 8th grade. interview
The ladies engaged in similar activities but had a sermon about guarding their hearts, speaking words of encouragement, and learning when to rest. Here’s what the ladies said they enjoyed about their day and what they learned.
“Spiritual Emphasis was something new I got to experience. I learned more about the Proverbs 31 woman and rest. My favorite part was when we were able to go outside and rest.”
Sonia B. 7th grade. interview

“Spiritual emphasis day made us realize how loved and safe I am with God in my life. I love how we were able to interact with many people who I happened to relate to.”
Khole DP. 9th grade. interview

“Spiritual Emphasis day was something new to me. I really enjoyed it. It was both impactful and the ladies that spoke inspired me. That day was very special, peaceful, and relaxing. It was nice to know that others relate to me. (I) Hope we do this again!”
Comfort S. 11th grade. interview
When the day started, some students came in with sadness and hardened hearts. By the end of the day, hearts felt lighter and students felt encouraged to share and act on God’s message for
them. Luckily, Comfort will get what she asked for on these special days and will be done again, and hopefully, we’ll become a Lanham Christian School tradition.
