Celebrating Creativity and Stories at the Literature Parade!
This year’s Literature Parade at Lanham Christian School was a huge success, bringing together students, teachers, and parents to celebrate the joy of reading. Held on October 25, 2024, the parade showcased creative costumes, lively performances, and a shared love for books that filled the day with excitement and inspiration.
Highlighting the Best of the Parade
Students from the elementary school participated, dressing up as characters from beloved books. From The Jungle Book to Dog Man, the parade was a colorful display of imagination and creativity. Our younger students delighted the crowd with charming takes on classic storybook characters, while the middle and high school students cheered them on as they walked the parking lot in the parade.
A Day of Fun and Learning
The parade wasn’t just about dressing up; it was also an opportunity for students to share why they chose their characters and the lessons they learned from their stories. Each group gave short speeches as they made their way around the school, sharing insights on the books they represented. This brought the literature to life and reinforced the importance of reading and critical thinking.
Here’s a look at the presentations from each class:
- K-4 told us all about The Cool Bean by Jory John and Pete Oswald.
- K-5 presented The Jungle Book.
- 1st Grade shared The Flower Garden by Eve Bunting.
- 2nd Grade taught us fun facts about Dr. Seuss.
- 3rd Grade introduced A Plate of Hope by José Andrés.
- 4th Grade performed Oh, the Places You’ll Go by Dr. Seuss.
- 5th Grade showcased Dog Man by Dav Pilkey.
We also had the pleasure of hearing from our special guest speaker, Eric Perez, an author and musician, who taught us about the conga drums and how music and storytelling go hand in hand.
